The Native Boardshort designed and made by Mehr Alejandro in San Clemente California in collaboration with professional long boarder Tommy Witt. Tommy who is arguably considered the best longboard free surfer in the world worked with Mehr Alejandro on the cut and fit and testing of the boardshort, a classic wide leg cut that sits above the knee with a 7.5” inseam.
Sticking by the MULCH motto “The way we do things defines us”, the most important factor in designing the boardshorts was to make it 100% biodegradable and prevent releasing microplastic into the ocean as all other board shorts currently in the market do. For over a year, sampling many different fabrics, Mehr Alejandro ended up choosing 100% Merino Wool. Marino Wool is a classic natural fabric that has a special tight weave that gives it a comfort fit and a quick natural dry.
Locally produced limited edition run of 100% Merino Wool boardshort in San Clemente is something special that MULCH can stand behind.
Tommy Witt traveled to the Dominic Republic for a 3-month surf trip to research, development and testing of the Native boardshort. The name behind the boardshort is because Mehr Alejandro and Tommy are both born and raised in San Clemente, one of the biggest surf Mecca’s in the world and where the best surfboards are coming from. Now, Mulch is the only San Clemente native brand making 100% biodegradable boardshorts to complement its surfboard industry.
The Surfer Journal recently ran an article about the Dominican Republic, with Tommy scoring some of the best shots in the magazine by legendary photographer Chris Klopf.
